Johns Hopkins University & GovEx: AI for City Government Course

In late 2024 into early 2025, the DNP team authored the content for an online course co-hosted by Johns Hopkins University and GovEx on the Strategy and Implementation of AI.

The course is designed to provide city government practitioners with the foundational knowledge to strategically implement AI within municipal operations. The course covers key AI terms and concepts, identifying suitable use cases for AI, and navigating risks related to transparency, privacy, and bias.

Through real-world examples and actionable insights, participants can explore how to align AI tools with organizational needs, address compliance constraints, and effectively engage with stakeholders. By the end of the course, participants will understand how to procure and evaluate AI tools for city projects, be equipped with methods to deploy and sustain AI systems, and have a foundation to navigate the evolving legal and technical landscapes of AI.

The DNP team were the lead authors of this course content. It is now in production and will be released later this year.
